What Are These Carbon Credits?
South Africa’s official compliance carbon credits represent verified reductions in CO₂ emissions through solar PV installations. These credits are backed by law and internationally audited under Verra methodology.
Your solar project (if commissioned after 13 Sept 2022) can earn carbon credits between Jan–Dec 2025 by proving it offsets fossil-based electricity. One tonne of avoided CO₂ = roughly one carbon credit.
Basic Eligibility

Commissioned after 13 Sept 2022, and before Dec 2025

Produces under 15MW of solar PV

Consumes 50% or more of generated energy onsite (no exports or wheeling)

Has real-time monitoring access (preferably via API or inverter/meter link)

Project owner holds or can secure green attribute ownership rights
Ideal Project Size and Your Carbon Credit Advantage

Target projects are 100kWp to 200kWp and larger

Smaller installations may qualify, depending on setup

Credits begin accumulating from Jan–Dec 2025

60% of credits go to the Project Owner, and credits increase in value annually
